Dreaming awake is the state which activates one's
own creative abilities and makes one accessible for healing forces. The term comes
out of a shamanistic tradition and refers to a state of heightened awareness enabling
an automatic access to a source of inner knowledge which the Toltecs called inner
seer. A Toltec in a sense we understand is not only part of a pre-Columbian
ethnic group but also a representative of a shamanistic tradition, a witch or
a sorcerer, that deals with the art of manipulating and enhancing the human perception.
The meaning of the word Toltec is great artist referring his art to
all what the Toltec does since he approaches every act with awe. His abilities
to manipulate and enhance perception is the result of his firm conviction that
the abilities of the human body of perceiving reaches much further than what we
define as reality. "We perceive. This is a hard fact. But what we
perceive is not a fact of the same kind, because we learn what to perceive."
Carlos Castaneda, The Wheel of Time, 1998
